When you enter your HR field at first, you only know some terms about it without any practical knowledge. So I must share it with you if you are new and filled with enthusiasm.
I am going to explain each HR role and responsibilities as easily as I can.
So there is a huge list.
But I will go up into this to make it easy to understand and it will also look like a process of a company, which works everywhere.
The first one is
- Attracting Or Inviting Candidates
While hiring candidates outside the firm, HR shares the name of the brand on vivid portals with a job description adding eligibility criteria and benefits to attract the aspirant candidate. As it is the first step in the hiring strategy, HR shares this in brief detail on online and offline portals carefully. Some companies already have a draft of it and the changes are also minimal. which if any policies changed there would be a change in salary too.
The second one is
- Selecting Candidates:
Companies most likely give chances to their employees for the senior position but if nobody fits for that they have to go through the first step and then select external candidates through their resumes and conduct interviews according to their needs to get going to the third process which is
- Training:
Training is an employee's favorite part as well as an HRs. Both enjoy doing this with no regrets as from 20 -30 candidates 7 are eligible for the position. If the companies want higher positions they do not need to train the candidate because he/she knows what to do. But if they don't know where to start. The senior can help them once or thrice until everything gets clear in a newcomer's mind.
- Payroll:
If HR works on payroll then there are lots of reasons for that. Like onboard or offboard, paying salary, or changing paying structure. A company's Payroll contains all details of the salary paid to an employee which you can find on your CTC too.
- Employee compensation and benefits:
Employee Compensation plans change rarely like in a pandemic, so if work is being done and still the fair is not good enough then employees can jump easily to another firm or can lose their interest in work which can lead to another pandemic in the company itself. So HRs take care that the employee is happy.
Also, why would a person work in a company? So he can get some benefits like insurance, paid vacations, corporate discounts, paid leaves, performance bonuses, paternity leaves, etc. With these benefits, HRs can create humongous value for such benefited employees which leads to an increase in motivation, productivity, loyalty, and satisfaction.
- Employee L&D:
Learning and development are highly suggestible for a company's growth.
Why?
The reason is simple: when the employee learns and grows for the next position the business also takes new small steps and grows with it. Learning and development training includes job rotations for broader knowledge, volunteering development actions, training sessions, on-floor seminars, and more.
- Performance Appraisal:
PA is tough but also awarding for organizations which reveal weaknesses to work on and strength and also talents of employees. Through PA employees get a lot of feedback to improve their work habits. It can also help them get some standout work assignments either for their improvement or development.
And after learning and development always comes Promotion
- Promotion:
Promotion depends on the performance of the employees, sure if an employee learns and proves his hold on new skills and responsibilities as seniority does, then he/ she can be promoted through internal hiring. An HR has to be accurate on every decision of an employee before giving that opportunity.
- Relations:
Relations are divided into two parts which are Labour and Managerial relations!
HR should have both. Labor relations are between organizational workforce and managerial relations are to manage the whole workforce for mobilizing, finalizing, and right person right work distribution to ensure productivity.
- Personal support for employees and Retention:
Keeping benefits and compensation aside, employees have personal problems too, which can interfere with and impact workflow. So, HR is always there to resolve issues.
But
The main focus area of the company's development is reducing retention rates. Retention is a process of keeping the best employees in the company. It is to take care that no employee even thinks of leaving the firm. That's why the HR Department creates the above roles and responsibilities like learning and developments, labor relations, compensation, and benefits, updating policies to employees, adding sessions of health and safety, etc.
So this is the simplest explanation of every HR role, I hope it will help in kick start or refresh your corporate journey.
And one important note: that, every company has its own culture, so if you see some changes, that's fine. Those are humans and their workforce culture can be different too.
