How Global Warming is pissing you off as Employees?

How Global Warming is pissing you off as Employees.
How Global Warming is pissing you off as Employees?

A Ten to 7 job looks decent, right?
Getting well paid with a paycheck, improved yearly appraisal and expressing yourself now and then to show how productive you are...
But,
What if I tell you that you are missing something daily?
Huh,
It's not like something is wrong with you, it's that you don't know about it.
Ask yourself what is it.

Yes, exactly the title of this post...
Do you know that Global warming is not only a threat to the environment but also to the economy and the workforce (it can be you)?

As the planet heats up, the effects of climate change are becoming more visible and severe, affecting various aspects of work environments.
Here are some of the ways that global warming is impacting employees and employers too:

1. Working conditions:

Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, storms, and wildfires. These events can disrupt infrastructure, damage property, and endanger lives.

Employees who work in exposed sectors, such as agriculture, construction, tourism, and transportation, may face increased risks of injury, illness, or death due to extreme weather conditions or facilities damage.

So what?

Higher temperatures and humidity can reduce labour productivity and increase heat stress, especially for outdoor workers¹.

However, your employers or you as one of them, may need to provide adequate protection, equipment, and training for workers to cope with these challenges in which disrupted supply chains are the invisible ones.
(Disrupted supply chains: an event that disrupts the manufacture of products.)

2. Labor supply and demand:

Climate change due to global warming is also affecting the availability and distribution of labour.
The result is less labour = less productivity.

On one hand, natural disasters can displace dear workers from their homes and workplaces, reducing labour supply and increasing unemployment aka labour challenges.

While,

On the other hand, climate change can create new opportunities and demand for workers with specific skills and expertise, such as renewable energy, disaster management, adaptation, and mitigation². Employers may need to adjust their hiring and retention strategies to match the changing labour market conditions.

Now this seems fruitful...
Let's move forward.

3. Employee morale and motivation:

Saw those people made by AI running away from their office due to the heat impacts, that is morale and motivation nowadays! Just running away from yourself. ;)

Climate change can also have psychological and emotional impacts on employees.

Some workers may experience anxiety, depression, or trauma due to the loss or threat of loss of their livelihoods, homes, or loved ones due to natural disasters.

Others may feel frustrated, angry, or hopeless about the lack of action or progress on addressing climate change.

These negative emotions can affect employee morale and motivation, as well as their performance and well-being causing workforce disruption.

Some employers may need to provide support and counselling for their workers to cope with these issues. If not, then there is no use for a briefing after working hours.

As climate change continues to pose challenges and opportunities for work environments, employers and employees need to be aware of the impacts and adapt accordingly.

By taking proactive measures to protect workers' health and safety, enhance their skills and competencies, and improve their mental and emotional well-being, employers can help their employees thrive in a changing climate.
